Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Arnold Palmer and Pete Dye have all created signature facilities in the Nevada desert.
Wildflowers, LV golf course and snow on mountaintopsPerhaps the finest of all the Las Vegas courses are the three incredible Pete Dye courses that make up the Paiute Golf Resort.
Although Paiute rests a few short miles from the outskirts of the center of the city, one feels as though you are playing in a serene desert oasis. With the stunning Snow Mountains acting as a backdrop, these three magnificent Championship courses are playable for golfers of all abilities.
The inaugural course was Snow Mountain, which has been the recipient of several accolades since opening in the early 1990's.
Named as Golf Digest's, “#1 Public access Golf Course” in 1995, Snow Mountain has since its inception also consistently given the magazine's prestigious, 4 _ star (out of a possible 5) rating. A par 72, measuring 7,146 yards form the back tees, the course challenges you with a variety of holes requiring a myriad of different shots.
Paiute Golf Course in Las VegasAt 7,112 yards, the Sun Mountain course is the tamest of the courses but by no means is it a pushover. The Sun meanders around the base of the mountains and features indigenous desert landscape, and sweeping slope changes, which will test every facet of your game.
And then, there is The Wolf. The longest golf course in Nevada, it howls at 7,604 total yards and has all the earmarks of the legendary Pete Dye. It promises an amazing golf experience, thanks to its length, the beauty of its natural desert surroundings, and its stunning island green on the fifteenth hole.
Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb officially opened the course by competing in Shell's Wonderful World of Golf and shot 65 and 64 respectively. Golfers of all skill levels can come take a bite out of the infamous Wolf by tempering the challenge with five tee options at various yardages.
Clubhouse reflectedAfter your round be sure to allow time for a cocktail or meal in the magnificent Clubhouse. With the desert panorama stretched before you through huge bay windows, it is the perfect way to unwind after your day on the links.
Another unique aspect of the Paiute Golf Resort, is that it is the exclusive, Las Vegas site of the world's finest golf school, the Bird Golf Academy. Bird Golf offers one on one instruction packages with world famous PGA and LPGA professionals. Imagine, working privately with US Open Champion or the founder of Golf for Women magazine. Their staff also includes 7 members of one or more Golf Halls of Fame and several award winning PGA and LPGA professionals.
Bird Golf offers 3, 4 and 5 day packages that are customized for each student. Their packages include six hours of instruction each day and a daily on-course lesson, deluxe accommodations at the luxurious JW Marriott, work on the mental game with Carey Mumford, and unlimited golf.
