The Plaza Hotel
No discussion of New York City hotels, however brief, would be complete without at least mentioning the Plaza Hotel on the corner of 5th Avenue and Central Park South.
Constructed with all the pomp, glory and opulence of a French Chateau, The Plaza is exquisitely decorated.
Four in-house restaurants cater to the varying tastes of sophisticated clientele.
805 rooms luxuriously equipped with modern amenities, and special touches like original chandeliers, custom fretted beds and bath linens and heated towels are complimented by an 8,000 square foot European-style health club and spa.
You've probably seen this hotel featured in numerours movies like 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
The Hilton New York
And then there is the Hilton New York the largest hotel in a city known for large hotels and the flagship of the Hilton Chain. A multi-lingual staff, multiple dining options including both American and Japanese breakfast buffets, an 8,000 square foot fitness facility and spa and all the modern luxury conveniences you'd expect make this a great place for business or leisure travelers to stay while in New York.
If you've ever enjoyed a stay at a Hilton you won't be disappointed with the Hilton New York, but if you prefer smaller more intimate hotels there are many to choose from; New York City Hotel Search.
Hilton Garden Inn
If you're planning to take advantage of any of the hop-on, hop-off classic double-decker bus tours or other New York City tours such as the Comprehensive tour, Night tour or Holiday lights tour I recommend staying at The Hilton Garden Inn.
I spent several nights at the Hilton Garden Inn (before the name change from Days Inn) on a recent trip to New York and as you can see in the picture to the right it's very convenient to the Visitors Center where many of the tours originate. The Hilton Garden Inn is also a short stroll to Times Square and New 42nd Street. Many New York Theaters are also within a few blocks.
Other New York Hotels near the Times Square, New 42nd Street and Theater District, but in a different quality, and price, range that you might want to consider are the Algonquin, the Iroquois and the Sofitel.
The Algonquin Hotel
The Algonquin Hotel is not only convenient to Times Square and the Theater District, but also to the fashion shopping available on Fifth and Madison Avenues. Opened in 1902 and renovated in 2004, The Algonquin Hotel's famous Round Table has been a favorite meeting place for prominent writers and leading stage figures. 'The Gonk' was where Dorothy Parker called home twice.
The Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room was described as New York City's best cabaret and USA Today said the Algonquin was "one of the 10 legendary hideaways of the rich and famous." Historic Traveler Magazine named it One of Americas 10 Best Historic Hotels.
The Iroquois Hotel
The Iroquois Hotel is also located just off 5th Avenue on "Club Row." The historic hotel has the intimate charm of an elegant European hotel with leisure time facilities that include 24-Hour fitness center, Finnish sauna, and cozy, well-stocked library. Standard rooms are a little on the small side but so comfortable you'll hardly notice. The Iroquois Hotel provides an oasis of comfort and tranquility in the center of New York's bright lights and excitement.
The Sofitel Hotel
A close neighbor to the Algonquin and Iroquois, the Sofitel Hotel shares their convenient location and provides luxurious accommodations for a mixture of domestic and international guests. Soaring 30 curved stories over midtown Manhattan The Sofitel New York has a contemporary design with French style and American spirit.
