Bouchaine Vineyards & Winery
California, Carneros AVA Winery in the Napa Valley
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
The Bouchaine site has a long and interesting winemaking history. The land was first planted to grapes (and fruit orchards) halfway through the 19th century by a California pioneer bearing the colorful name of Boon Fly.
In the 1930s it held the Carneros region’s first winery and tasting room. The property was purchased in 1951 by Beringer Brothers, who sold it thirty years later to the present owners, Gerret and Tatiana Copeland; they have since made massive technological innovations to the winemaking facility and many architectural improvements to the original winery and tasting room.
The 104-acre Estate specializes in Burgundian varietals.
The grounds and winery are beautiful and unique: the winery’s exterior is made from recycled redwood that has been hand-cut from the old, original wine tanks once used here. In the tasting room, with its long redwood tasting bar, you’ll find the staff to be low-key, friendly and helpful.
If you’re a history buff, don’t miss the photos documenting the winery’s origins—they’re just off the tasting room.
Before or after your tasting, ask for a self-guided vineyard tour pamphlet, and set out on a fascinating walk; not quite a mile long, it’s highlighted by 14 different stops—many of which offer stunning views of Carneros and San Pablo Bay.
Co-proprietor Tatiana Copeland is the great niece of famed Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Amenities: Self-Guided Vineyard Walks; Horseshoe pit; Table-for-Two picnic lunches available daily; Gift shop; Wine Club (complimentary tastings)
