Gloria Ferrer in Los CarnerosWhen it opened in 1986, Gloria Ferrer became the first sparkling wine house in all of Carneros. It’s owned by the Ferrer family of Spain’s Catalan region, which has a long history of Cava (champagne) production both there and, more recently, in other wine-growing parts of the world. In 1991, Ferrer added still wines to its sparkling wine lineup at Gloria Ferrer.

The Visitor Center is a large stucco building with a red-tiled roof inspired by the Ferrer family’s 11th-century Spanish farmhouse. The interior is quite “California Mission,” with terraces, arched portals, dark wood on pastel walls, and wrought-iron chandeliers.
On a sunny Gloria Ferrer terrace and view of Carneros region afternoon—of which there are many hereabouts—most people sit on Vista Terrace, shaded by large umbrellas while gazing upon endless vistas of vineyards and distant mountains. On cooler or rainy days, the interior tasting room welcomes you with a crackling fire.
Tastings, ordered by 2-ounce or full-sized glass, are accompanied by Mediterranean spiced almonds. A picnic area is available for visitors who buy a bottle of wine.
