Small Carneros AVA Winery in Sonoma Valley, CA
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
It’s all about The Reds at Homewood Winery—Cabs, Zins, Syrah and the rest of the gang (including some tasty Blends).
Dave Homewood started as a “home winemaker” in 1983 when he and two friends purchased a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and produced their first wine. Homewood eventually went solo and professional, and the winery was bonded in 1988.
Homewood buys the best grapes from appellations where they grow best (many are tiny, family-owned operations). Dave’s goal is for the winery to remain small enough that he can continue doing exactly what he’s been doing all along: creating very small lots of hand-crafted wines (Homewood produces only about 3000 cases per year).
A tasting at Homewood is definitely not about glamour and glitz. But if you want to focus on excellent value-forward wines in a homey and unpretentious atmosphere, you’ll be delighted with a visit here.
In good weather it’s a real treat to relax in the Redder da Better Lounge, the outdoor wine tasting room.
Fascinating Fact:
Homewood produces a range of varietal port-style dessert wines—a different one each year. So far they have included Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, and Petite Syrah ports.
