Friendly Carneros AVA Winery on Old Sonoma Road
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
In 1912, Andy Bartolucci moved to the United States from Italy. He eventually came to Napa Valley where, in 1922, he bought a 24-acre vineyard and winery, renaming it the Madonna Winery.
Decades later his sons, the second generation, added additional acreage, and in the process established a few new varietals to Napa Valley.
Third-generation patriarch Andrea (“Buck”) Bartolucci purchased the Carneros property in 1977. These days he oversees the operation and serves as winemaker, assisted by daughters Brette and Taylor.
The Bartolucci winemaking philosophy, which calls for minimal intervention, means that the grapes are grown via the notoriously difficult technique of dry-farming; never watered, they can develop intense fruitiness.
Madonna Estate also uses natural organic farming.
The small tasting room is a notably friendly and unpretentious destination, the kind of place where you can feel comfortable asking questions about the wine and winemaking process. A Reserve Tasting Room is available by appointment for couples or groups who want a private tasting experience.
The Bartoluccis are Napa Valley’s third-oldest winemaking family.
