Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours

Tasting bar and wine cellar at Silver Oak CellarsSilver Oak Cellars was co-founded in 1972 by Raymond Twomey Duncan, who had recently purchased vineyards in Napa and Alexander Valleys; and Justin Meyer, then a winemaker at Christian Brothers. Their goal: to create a winery that would adhere to the highest standards of California wine.
19th century wooden water tower at Silver Oak CellarsMeyer eventually sold his interest in the winery to Duncan, and today the winery is entirely owned by the Duncan family. Silver Oak focuses on a single varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon, giving rise to the winery’s motto: “Life is a Cabernet.”
The winery is approached via a long driveway, allowing visitors ample time to admire the large, beautiful building made of reclaimed limestone and Missouri white oak. The original winery was destroyed by fire in 2006; the elegant replacement is designed in a style that honors the past while containing modern touches.
Fortunately, the original 19th century wooden water tower survived the fire, and its sleek simplicity blends harmoniously with the solid stone buildings. The tasting room contains beautiful carved wooden paneling, welded-iron accoutrements, a fireplace to warm yourself beside on a cold winter day and a huge glass fronted wine cellar.
