Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Garen & Shari Staglin met in the mid-1960s as 19-year-old students at UCLA. Later, when Garen was studying for his MBA at Stanford, they often explored the Napa Valley, nurturing a shared, new-found passion for wine in the process.
After marrying in 1968, Shari worked in public service and health care management, while Garen did well enough in the technology field that, by 1985, they could purchase 50 acres of Napa Valley vineyards originally planted by the influential winemaker André Tchelistcheff. Staglin wines have received frequent critical acclaim since they were first produced.
Your visit to Staglin will take place almost entirely beneath the ground. The 27,000-square-foot cave system contains most of the wine-making facilities.
You’ll first meet in the beautifully-restored 1868 Steckter House that serves as Staglin’s hospitality center, where you’ll enjoy a glass of Chardonnay and learn a bit of the winery’s history. Then, after a short vineyard walk, you’ll explore the caves and learn how the wine is made, returning to the visitor center to try more wines.
Fascinating Fact:
Staglin’s annual Music Festival for Mental Health has raised millions to fund research in the field. The event usually features major stars such as Dwight Yoakam, Gladys Knight, and the Pointer Sisters.
