Grapes were first planted here in the mid-1800s, and a barn still in use dates back to the early 1900s.The current winery was started in 1979. It was sold in 1993 to a successful San Francisco businessman, Tom Leonardi, who made numerous upgrades and changes. A true family-run winery, Whitehall Lane has consistently received high marks from wine magazines and connoisseurs.With its clean lines and soft-yellow/blue-gray colors, the stucco winery—which sports a large window above the entrance shaped like the bowl of a wine glass—is modern and appealing.Stained concrete is used to great effect in the tasting room, where the concrete flooring and bar top carry on the yellow/blue color theme. Modern art adorns the walls and windows overlook the winery’s operations.The easy-going vibe will make you feel right at home.
Fascinating Fact:One of the brothers who originally founded Whitehall Lane Winery, Art Finkelstein, went on to found Judd’s Hill Winery, just east of the Silverado Trail.
