Mario Andretti's Italian inspired Napa Valley Winery
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
When auto racing champion Mario Andretti retired from five illustrious decades of competition in 1994, he turned his attention to a new hobby: making wine. Two years later he and a close friend, Joe Antonioni, bought a 53-acre vineyard and winery on the southern end of the Silverado Trail (as Kmart’s CEO, Antonioni had been a major sponsor of Andretti’s racing team).
Today the Andretti Winery is known for its excellent, super-premium wines which are distributed throughout the United States and abroad.
True to the co-founders’ roots, the Andretti Winery proudly displays its Italian heritage and Old World charm with a cozy tasting room housed in a sun-colored, Tuscan-style villa.
A large bubbling fountain in the courtyard entrance seems as if it came straight out of an ancient village, a feeling that’s enhanced by the many Italian cypress that dot the property and an overall feeling of peace and serenity. The patio in the rear is shaded by huge old redwood trees.
When Mario Andretti is in town, it’s not unusual to encounter him pouring in the tasting room.
Arguably the most successful American race car driver in history, Mario Andretti was named “Driver of the Century” in 2000 by the Associated Press.
