Napa Valley Winery on the southern end of the Silverado Trail
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
Luna was started in 1995 when two long-time wine industry veterans, George Vare and Mike Moone, set out to produce wines in an old-fashioned, craftsman-like style.
They found the perfect 40-acre site on the southern end of the Silverado Trail (the former St. Andrews Winery) and made a bold decision to replace the old Chardonnay vines with Pinot Grigio. That early decision provides a clue about Luna’s wine orientation, which is geared almost totally to red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, and Sangiovese.
The remodeled Italianate-style tasting room has pastel-colored pigmented plaster walls, is floored with handcrafted tile and lushly outfitted with Persian rugs, soft leather couches, elegant wood tables, and in-wall cabinets.
The stately tasting bar, equipped with crystal glasses, provides an elegant—and fitting—backdrop to taste Luna’s premium wines (although in winter, you might prefer nestling into a nook near the fireplace)
Luna Winery’s Reserve Room can be used for private tastings or events.
Don’t miss a peaceful stroll through the winery’s extensive olive groves, where you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to the Tuscan countryside. On a warm day, you’ll enjoy sipping a glass of wine on the stone patio, which offers wonderful views of the vineyards.
Luna Vineyards partners jokingly refer to themselves as “Lunatics.”
Amenities: Olive grove walks. Outdoor patio. Wine Club. Reserve Room can be used for private events.
