Nicholson Ranch Winery
Family owned Sonoma Winery
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
Crowning a hilltop in the southern foothills of Sonoma Valley, 160-acre Nicholson Ranch enjoys excellent views of its own small lake and the surrounding vineyard-covered hills.
When Ramona Nicholson was growing up on the property, it was a cattle ranch (her parents bought it in 1962). She left home for college and other endeavors, but returned in 1995 with her husband, Deepak Gulrajani, and their newborn child. The very next year they planted vineyards and have been making excellent, hand-crafted wines ever since.
Low-key but elegant, the Mediterranean-style winery is constructed from flagstone, stucco, native fir, salvaged old-growth redwood, and other natural materials.
One of the treats with a tasting here is that you’ll be served all wines in individual glasses, allowing you to “revisit” and compare pours. Enjoy wine in the tasting room, with its splendid view of the small lake—usually populated by herons, egrets, and ducks—or sit outside on the redwood deck or in the Fountain Courtyard.
And don’t miss the wonderful Overlook Gallery, which features rotating art exhibits of paintings, sculpture, and mixed media. Pick up some bread, cheese or other items in the tasting room, and a bottle of wine, and enjoy lunch on a picnic table outside.
Throughout the creation process, Nicholson Ranch wines are moved gently via a sophisticated five-level gravity flow operation.
