Roche Carneros Estate Winery
Sonoma Tasting Room for Carneros AVA Winery
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
Back in 1977, physicians Joseph and Genevieve Roche purchased a cattle ranch in Sonoma’s Carneros region, soon taking up residence with their young children.
In those days the Carneros wasn’t thought to be good land for growing grapes. However, both Roches dreamed of owning a vineyard, so they forged ahead. They planted their first vines—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—in 1982, and from the first harvest knew that they could create superb wines from their own grapes. They have crafted award-winning wines ever since.
From 1989 and for the next twenty years, the Roche Family maintained a tasting room on the Carneros property.
However, in 2009 they moved from that facility into a tasting room in the town of Sonoma. Housed in an authentic 1940s Craftsman house, the new tasting room is just off busy Sonoma Plaza, with its boutiques and restaurants. It’s a casual and comfortable venue to sample wine, inside at the bar or sitting outside on the wraparound porch or shaded patio.
You can tour the Roche Family’s 500-acre Carneros ranch on a 1.5-hour horseback ride, traversing vine-covered hills with beautiful vistas of the surrounding protected open space and beyond to San Pablo Bay.
