Small tasting room just off Sonoma Plaza
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
In the early 1970s Roger Roessler made his first entry into the restaurant business in the San Francisco Bay Area, soon expanding to Colorado and New Mexico.
Over the years his interest in wines deepened into a passion, and in 2000 he took the plunge into winemaking.
Since 2000 he has co-owned Roessler Cellars with his brother, Richard. The two men have a vineyard in the coastal town of Annapolis and source premium grapes from wine-growing regions in California and Washington to produce their highly-rated Pinot Noirs (most are single vineyard designates).
Roessler also produces very small lots of Chardonnay made in the classic Burgundian style as well as a dry Riesling.
The Roessler tasting room on Sonoma Plaza occupies a small Tudor-style home that once belonged to the Sebastiani wine family. It’s just a step or two up from the northwest corner of Sonoma Plaza. The place has a wooden wine bar, a fireplace, and a down-home feel; it’s a comfy venue in which to relax and sample these fine Pinots and Chardonnays (and the excellent dry Riesling).
The Brothers Roessler are usually behind the bar, waxing not just poetically about their wines, but also with knowledge and humor.
The name “Roessler” is pronounced “Wrestler.”
