Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Cathy Corison developed a passion for wine as a Biology student at California’s Pomona College. She ended up graduating from the famous enology program at U.C. Davis in the mid-1970s.
Corison was soon working in Napa, which was just beginning its rise to worldwide wine prominence. She gained experience at top wineries, including Staglin Family, York Creek, Yverdon, and Chappellet. In 1987 she began making wines under her own name, purchasing her own estate vineyards two years later and constructing a winery in 2000. Corison’s rich complex hand-crafted wines receive consistent accolades.
A Corison visit gives you the chance to spend time in a family-owned working winery, tasting wine right in the barrel room—and sometimes it’s poured by the winemaker herself. The winery, designed by Corison’s husband, is modern and has a wonderful open feeling. You’ll have a chance to taste a variety of Corison Cabernet Sauvignon vintages, as well as the winery’s second labels. The Corazon label (it means “heart” in Spanish) includes a Gewürztraminer made from grapes grown in Mendocino County and a Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé. The value-priced Helios label is usually available only at the winery.
Fascinating Fact:
Corison’s estate contains some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Napa Valley, planted in the early 1970s.
