Family run winery in St. Helena with two wine taste/tour options
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
Flora Springs has been owned and run by the same family since its founding 30 years ago. The property had been a winery dating back to the 19th century, but was long abandoned in 1977 when Jerry and Flora Komes discovered it. They fell in love with the stone buildings and ivy-covered walls, but weren’t planning to make wine.
Their children, John Komes and Julie Komes Garvey, together with their spouses, had a different idea. In 1978 they produced their first wine. A year later they created an award-winning Chardonnay—and the rest is history.
A visit to Flora Springs offers fun choices. You can tour the historic estate located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains; you can spend time in the modern tasting room a short distance away; or you can do both.
The various Estate tours take you deep into hillside caves, let you taste wine straight from the barrel or enjoy small plates paired with library wines, and learn about “ghost” wineries.
At the architecturally-striking tasting room, known simply as “The Room,” you can choose from numerous flights, food and wine pairings, and even a picnic in a basket with wine, linens, and glassware.
Flora Springs recycles used corks from their winery and tasting room, and collects corks from visitors for recycling.
