Family Owned & Run Winery in St. Helena, California
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
Italian immigrants John and Emma Salvestrin fell in love with St. Helena in the 1920s, and in 1932 they purchased land here that had been planted with grapes since the 1860s.
Prohibition was repealed the next year, and the family soon became involved in growing and selling grapes to nearby wineries. The Salvestrin’s son, Ed, continued the grape-farming tradition into the 1980s, when the third generation took over.
In 1987 Rick Salvestrin, armed with a degree in viticulture, moved the family into winemaking. Using the finest Salvestrin grapes, he produced his first Cabernet Sauvignon vintage in 1994.
Salvestrin’s winery is nestled into vineyards, so you’ll get to walk beside rows of grapes to reach the stone and wood tasting facility. Your pre-arranged visit will include a vineyard and barrel room tour.
The tasting room has a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere and offers wonderful views from the upstairs balcony over the surrounding vineyards (on warm days tastings are often conducted outside).
From the tasting bar you can gaze through windows into the production facilities and watch the winery at work. Rich Salvestrin makes frequent appearances in the tasting room.
You can spend the night in the property’s historic inn. It’s located in an 1879 Victorian built by Dr. George Crane, one of Napa Valley’s early pioneers.
