Muir Woods National Monument
We are fortunate that this grove of old-growth redwood trees just a half hour from San Franicsco was saved from the axe. The same characteristics that allow trees to live for hundreds of years also make them good building material so few were spared.
After a pick-up at your downtown or Fisherman's Wharf hotel you'll enjoy the morning light on San Francisco's historic Presido, the Golden Gate Bridge and SF Bay.
Enjoy two hours walking among the tallest trees in the world—longer than most other tours. Learn about the tallest trees and their forest neighbors in a self-paced walk along Redwood Creek.
Visit Cathedral Grove with a memorial to FDR where the United Nations delegates met to pay their respects at their first meeting.
Take pictures of each other standing inside the trunk of a giant tree or visit the gift shop and take home seeds to plant a redwood in your own back yard.
On the return trip we may have time to stop in Sausalito, or the Marin Headlands overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Skyline (weather permitting – San Francisco's famous fog may obscure the view!)
If you like trees, forests, nature, water, and wildlife, you don’t want to miss this half-day expedition to Muir Woods!
